There was a time when all it took to become a life insurance
agent was an 8-hour class, during which the eager new agent was
taught the licensing test. That system created agents with no
knowledge, but loads of government-provided credibility.
The result was massive ignorance-induced client abuse. Inappropriate
sales, clients' wishes thwarted, lawsuits, unnecessary probates,
immeasurable millions of dollars which should have provided for
widows, widowers and orphans wasted, all because of well-meaning
agents who too often never realized the devastation they caused.
In 1992, the 52-hour requirement began and was soon transformed
into 52 hours of test preparation.
The result is the same -- too much focus on the sale and not
enough on taking care of the client, because the agent doesn't
feel competent to do so. In order to empower these agents, I have,
from scratch, created five classes:
Course #121658 - Life Insurance Beneficiary
Designation and Ownership - 3 hours
Course #129258 - Basics of Annuities and The
Ethics of Selling Them - 4 hours
Course #130598 - The Basics of Family
Estate Planning for Life Agents - 4 hours
Course #118598 - The Basics of Life Insurance
- 12 hours
Course #134618 - The Basics of Ethics for the
Life Insurance Professional - 4 hrs
which allow the agent to truly become what they intended to become
before the system got hold of them. When the client really knows
that the agent IS the expert, that the agent actually deeply cares
about their family's welfare and will only do that which is best
for them, when the commission becomes a distant second to the
agent's realization that they are able to change lives -- then
the agent's life, and career, has a joyful purpose.
